Coach Brandon Lucero
Head Wrestling Coach
Coach Lucero has been on the Air Academy Wrestling Staff for a little over two years now. The 2020 wrestling season will be his first as head coach of the Kadets.
Graduating from Air Academy in 2017 he had a successful junior year placing at the Colorado state tournament. His senior year a dislocated elbow held him from the state tournament but his work ethic and positive attitude kept everyone motivated for the entire season. Brandon was also a very decorated Greco/Freestyle wrestler nearly placing 2X at the Fargo National tournament. His coaching experience comes from the surplus of coaches he has had. “I believe you should be able to learn something from each individual, which I have been doing and is why I will one day not only make a good wrestler but a great coach.”
After high school he attended the University of Northern Colorado on a wrestling scholarship. Since leaving he is now back helping with the Air Academy Kadets. He is also running multiple wrestling clubs Colorado Springs Freestyle & Greco Wrestling Club and Palaestra Youth Wrestling Club.
Lucero's goal is to help the wrestlers build their career so they can progress with it as far as they desire. He does that by expecting his wrestlers to strive for their goals and believing in themselves. Also wants all of his wrestlers to be committed day in and day out.
Coach Jason Mitchler
Assistant Coach / Strength and Conditioning Coach
Coach Mitchler joins the Kadets for his fourth season as assistant coach. For the 2020 wrestling season this will be the first year he will lead as the stength/conditioning coach for the program.
Mitchler is a Wisconsin native but grew up in Thornton, Colorado. He was a 2x state qualifier for Thornton High School and attended the University of Northern Colorado (BA, Kinesiology).
After graduating from college, he joined the U.S. Army and became a Special Forces Medic. He later attended the Army-Baylor Physical Therapy Program and is currently on active duty at Fort Carson, CO.
He has coached youth wrestling for the last ten years in Georgia, Virginia, and Colorado.
Coach Brad Vollmar
Coach Brad does a lot for Air Academy Wrestling and brings a general positive attitude to the room and knows the sport extremely well as he has coached in not only wrestling but football for years.
"Hello, I am proud to be a wrestling coach at Air Academy High School. We have excellent student athletes, and deep Kadet tradition. I am a graduate of University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and was a member of Husker wrestling team for three seasons. I love this sport, and I want you to feel the same way, wrestling teaches all of us so much. Go Kadets!"
Coach Warren Bosch
Coach Bosch is a third year wrestling coach for the Air Academy Kadets. He has helped benefit numerous kids in the room be successful in the state tournament.
Bosch grew up in Kings Park, NY. He became a 2011 NY State Champ at 215lbs his senior year wrestling for Kings Park High school. He went off to wrestle Division 1 in college for a small school called Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He was a 2 year starter for Edinboro and his team took 3rd in the nation the year he started Heavy Weight. He joined ROTC his sophomore year and commissioned in May 2016. He is currently active duty station at Fort Carson.
He has been coaching youth and collegiate athletes for the past 6 years and is excited about the future seasons with the Kadets.
Coach Pete Hanenberg
Coach Hanenberg has helped Air Academy Wrestling for a long time as he was one of the former head coaches.
Hanenberg has been coaching with Air Academy for 20+ years now. He also is the Head Coach at Eagleview Middle School and has been for 26 years. 18 of those he had undefeated dual seasons.
He Grew up wrestling at Canon City High School after which he wrestled in college at University of Southern Colorado (CSU- Pueblo).
Coach Larry Farris
Coach Farris has been apart of Air Academy wrestling for quite a while and has been quite the asset to the team. He finds a way every dual or tournament to motivate the Kadet Wrestlers. He does a great job at keeping morals high and getting the whole team involved to support their teammates.
Farris has helped specificaly with many of our upper-weigts. Taking the time to go over the details with them after each practice has improved many of our wrestlers throughout the season.
Coach Steve Hill
Coach Steve is a 3rd generation native of Colorado Springs. He graduated from Wasson High School, went to C.S.U. and then on to graduate from C.U. After which he coached at Air Academy for over 10 years and saw much success. His wife Maryann has supported him in all endeavors the past 25 years. Together they own a small business. His daughter Morgan is a graduate student at C.U. His son, Brunner is a Junior at Western State and on the wrestling team there. He has been Competing in, Officiating or Coaching wrestling for much of his life.
Coach Matthew Barela
Coach Barela is new to the team this year. He grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado and wrestled most of his life. He graduated Air Academy High School in 2017 and had an amazing senior wrestling season. Matthew is a 3-time Colorado State Qualifier. Although his wrestling background is extensive, Barela competes nationally in judo as a brown belt.
With all his experience in wrestling and judo, Barela will be a great asset to our Kadet team.
